TIPS by Carolina

Your skin care routine should be reevaluated. No matter what your skin type, what may have worked well during the hot summer months may not benefit your skin during the cooler, less humid months of fall. Below, I share some tips for skin care in autumn so you can keep your skin healthy and radiant with the change of season.

Reach for oil

We realize that you've probably spent much of the summer trying to keep oily skin at bay, so it may sound counterintuitive to turn to an oil-based moisturizing product now. However, using an oil-based moisturizer will give your skin the extra moisture it needs now that humidity levels are starting to drop. Facial oils provide great hydration while remaining lightweight. Plus, skin absorbs facial oils faster than moisturizers, so you won't have to wait as long before applying makeup. It is especially beneficial for people with dry skin, who have a hard time finding the right skin care products. Use a good facial mask weekly to replenish the hydration that is lost over time.

Don't stop using sunscreen

The sun may not be as strong in the fall as it is in the summer, but it never stops emitting ultraviolet (UV) rays that can cause sun damage, skin cancer, and premature signs of aging, such as hyperpigmentation (dark spots). That is why you should never forget to apply sun protection. To protect your skin, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (with an SPF of at least 15) before leaving the house each day, even if it's cloudy.

Take into account your cuticles Dry,

rough cuticles are a telltale sign of cold temperatures. This fall, get into the habit of rubbing your cuticles with oil several times a week. If you are meticulous now, you will avoid cracks. In winter, your hands will thank you.

Protect your lips

It's easy to forget that you also have delicate, sensitive skin on your lips. Prevent chapped and peeling lips by regularly applying lip balm. You can also exfoliate your lips every two weeks by lightly brushing them with a soft, dry toothbrush. Taking good care of your lips this fall will keep them soft and kissable in time for mistletoe season.
